How it all began
The Beginning
We met as students at Loyola Marymount University in 2018! Our mutual friend, Lydia (co-maid of honor), convinced me to ask Dylan to come hang out with our friends and be my date to a sorority event that night. Because we were broke college students, our first date was a meal we made together for my friends. I made some chicken and Dylan made his “famous broccolini”. (I later learn that it’s famous because it’s the only thing he can make.)
I quickly fell in love with Dylan’s humor and the way he instantly makes everyone around him so comfortable.
After graduation, Dylan pursued his Master’s degree in New York while I focused on kicking off my career in Los Angeles. Dylan sped through his program, and hurried home to California. Verdict is still out whether he rushed home for me or our puppy, Monty. But I can’t believe those college kids are now getting to build a life together.
- Mint
The Proposal
I spent months planning a surprise weekend getaway for Mint to Catalina Island, filled with helicopter rides, ziplining, and what Mint believed would be a guided island tour. The morning of the proposal, I woke up early to prepare for the day’s plans—particularly the “island tour,” which was actually a cover for my proposal. But everything took an unexpected turn when the photographer (aka our “tour guide” that was supposed to set up our proposal spot) canceled last minute. Panicked, I rushed to the restroom pretending to have a some rough stomach troubles and tried to figure out my next move. By sheer luck, a college of friend who lived on Catalina Island and was a photographer happened to be available.
Unlike the golf cart tour Mint expected, our new “tour guide” hilariously gave us a very local tour in his Forerunner. Many historically inaccurate facts about the island later, we made it up to the top of the island. Against the breathtaking backdrop, I got down on one knee and asked Mint to marry me on October 14th 2023.
Like our relationship, there were plenty of funny detours in our proposal. But we’d say “yes” to each other any day.
